restoration and repair
We repair all kinds books - from family cookbooks and children's picture books to large leather Bibles and unique first editions.
With every book restoration we strive to maintain as much of the original binding as possible. We perform our work using traditional bookbinding techniques and archival materials. The level of intervention will vary depending on a number of things: the inherent value of the book; how the book will be used in the future, and the budget of the customer.
Below is an example of a recent restoration project and the steps taken to repair the book.

To restore this book we added a new piece of cloth to span the spine, mounting the old spine piece over top. We also cleaned the boards and added paste to the corners for strength
We repaired the pages using archival heat-set tissue and installed a new interior cloth hinge for added strength
